Over the Hill demo
Checked 17 October 2026. Updated 2026-10-17.
I went looking for a demo install on 16 October 2026 and the only honest result was a closed window. Funselektor kept the Next Fest demo up until 29 June 2026 at noon CEST, then shut it. The full game has been the replacement since 14 October 2026.

When it was available
The demo opened on 12 June 2026 for Steam Next Fest. An extension post kept it live until Monday 29 June 2026, 12:00 CEST. After that the studio said demo access had closed. On 6 August 2026 they explained they wanted the demo to represent the game at its best, and that a small team could not keep a demo build and free servers running.
If Steam still shows a demo entry in a library, it will not launch a playable build. That is a closed server, not a broken PC. The full download is the current path.
What the demo contained
The June build was the opening of The Valhallas, around Emerald Lake. You could play solo or with up to three friends, unlock three vehicles, photograph wildlife for the compendium, use photo mode, pull meteorites for Pebbles, and use tools such as winch anchors, repair kits, a camp and a meteorite radar.
Save carry-over was a plan, not a guarantee. On 24 June 2026 the studio said they could not promise demo saves would work in the full game. I have not seen a post-launch confirmation either way, so I am not telling you your demo file arrived intact.
Questions
Can I still download the Over the Hill demo?
No. It closed on 29 June 2026 at 12:00 CEST.
Did demo saves carry into the full game?
The studio planned for compatibility but said they could not guarantee it. No later post confirmed the result.
Why was the demo removed?
Funselektor said they could not keep a demo build and free servers running while still showing the game at its best.
